Westbury Leigh has been effectively a suburb of Westbury from medieval times, but it retained a separate identity as a fiscal and administrative unit until the 19th century. Westbury Leigh became a thriving village with its own shops, pubs and industry, nearly as large as Westbury itself (in 1801 the population of Westbury was 1,837 and that of Westbury Leigh 1,475).
Westbury Leigh is rather quieter now, but we can still take pride in our history and our sense of community.
